Leaving a Legacy to the Swiss Garden

In writing a Will, your loved ones naturally come to mind first. However, you might also wish to support other causes that have special significance to you.
If the Swiss Garden is a place filled with fond memories, or if it has become particularly meaningful to you during your retirement, you may wish to consider leaving a Legacy to the Swiss Garden.
The funding of the Swiss Garden is dependent on the Friends annual memberships and single‑entry tickets. It does not receive any income from events such as the Garden at Night or weddings, and any additional support is provided solely at the discretion of the Shuttleworth Trust. The recent renovation of the Summer House cost over £30,000.
Any legacy, however small will be gratefully received.
The different types of Legacies
Legacies in wills are primarily classified into 4 main types: residuary (a percentage of the remaining estate). pecuniary (a fixed sum of money), specific (a particular item like jewellery or a property) and revisionary (assets left to someone for life then reverting to another beneficiary such as the Swiss Garden.
What you need to do
Simply let your solicitor or Will writer know that you would like to include a gift to the Friends of the Swiss Garden and provide the full address and charity registration number. Leaving charitable gifts in your Will may help you reduce the value of your estate liable for Inheritance Tax.
